Security Token Offerings (STOs) and the Traditional Stock Market

There’s a good chance security tokens will change the way we look at the stock market in the very near future. Just like owning shares in a company by buying its stock, security token offerings create the ability to own fractionalized shares of any asset on the blockchain in a process known as tokenization. Besides the ability to trade 24/7, the best part of the concept of tokenizing assets is that in that process, you unlock liquidity – and investors love that! Big time investor houses are starting to notice security tokens. Purchasing these offerings provides investors with the same…

Proposed Rule Amendment May Shift How the SEC Perceives Security Token Offerings

Businesses seeking to crowdfund via security token offerings (STOs) may soon get some relief from regulatory requirements The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently proposed amending its capital formation rules for early stage startups. If adopted, the rule changes would raise the cap on the amount companies can raise to $75 million from $50 million for Regulation A+ security offerings and to $5 million from $1 million for Regulation CF (crowdfunding) deals. It all stems from the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act of 2012, which allows companies to raise funds from the public without having to register as a…

In 2020, more businesses and individuals are conducting most, if not all, of their financial transactions online, including shopping and banking. Cryptocurrencies fit right into these digital transactions, acting as a virtual currency, which should be secure through cryptography. What will banking look like in the very near future? Here's a hint: it probably will be completely different than it is today. The term is "Decentralized Banking" (or "Decentralized Finance") and they are terms you should…

The Language of Industry and its Impact on Blockchain

How do humans speak to each other? Depends on the environment. If we are enjoying a dinner together or a BBQ, or having a drink together, we speak simply, we use slang and our words are filled with emotion. Usually, we retreat to our personal spaces feeling good or warm and fuzzy. Then we go to work and we speak differently. We speak the language of our industry. Techno-geeks speak the language of x and y and 0 and 1. Doctors speak words no one can pronounce or spell. Lawyers speak with bushes in their pockets running in circles with…

Why Real Estate Investors Don’t Like Syndications: Enter Tokenization!

There’s nothing like investing in commercial real estate. So many dream of owning large office buildings, medical complexes, retail sites, high rise mixed use projects, and multifamily properties. The problem is that most of these people don’t have the resources to take down any of these projects on their own, as many project developments run into the hundreds of millions of dollars. So how can investors still take part in these deals? The answer is through real estate syndication. With a top-level view of a syndicate, the real estate “sponsor” finds the property, sets up all the offering documents, then…
